MDU Round 4 2011 @ Nashville Super Speedway

Aside from a ClubFR practice day this was the only other time I'd driven the RX7 since XDC Round 3 and I was super excited to drift the super speedway! I did all the usual going over the car, changing the oil and checking for things falling off from the last event. No worries and I mounted up what I thought would be more than enough tires...
I left Milwaukee early Saturday morning and picked up my friend Clinton at his home in Indianapolis and headed for Nashville. Sunday morning I woke up to thunder and rain and I was disappointed as this was supposed to be the fastest most fun track I had ever driven. Thankfully it cleared up by the time we actually got to the track! I'm usually the first person at the track and waiting at a locked gate for the people in charge to wake up but I was running a bit late. However, this wasn't an issue because we were able to use the fancy nascar garages for the pits and we didn't need to set anything up.
We swapped out the worn tires from the last event for some fresh Falkens and filled the car with some Tennessee 92 octane and we were ready to rock!
Usually the drivers meeting is out in the parking lot but we were able to use the air conditioned building where there was a map of the track. I took a look at it and couldn't believe how awesome this track was going to be. Basically we used the pit lane to gain speeds to upwards of 90mph in 4th gear and then clutch kick in and stay on the throttle. None of this clutch kick- to-brake- and-handbrake; I mean full throttle rev limiter 4th gear through a seemingly never ending corner and at the end was a 180 degree tight hairpin corner, so then get on the brakes and downshift to 3rd, hit the clips and transition to the other direction into a wide almost 180 turn opening to a straight, so upshift to 4th again and transition on throttle through an "s" to finish the course! Amazing! Most. fun. ever!
Now I was using the made-from-iron PT-722 and after 4 runs of this track, the tires were about toast. I practiced through the morning and I was looking forward to getting to tandem with T2 Mike but the entry speeds were too high for his fiberglass fenders and the right front broke off and proceded to smash his wind shield. Thats how fast we were going!
I skipped my practice run before qualifying to save tires and ended up qualifying 1st again!! I made my way to the finals where I was paired against Tyson Schmidt in a V8 S13. We had a close battle but he ended up with the win and I finished 2nd! I learned a few things from this weekend and I will be a much better driver because of it.
